I want to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to reach out to wish me a happy birthday - I will do my best to respond to each individual message but trust when I say that they are all appreciated. It was indeed a great day, one of the best birthdays I can remember in fact: I took the day off, no gigs, hung out with Kev, ate some great food (big ups to XO Brasserie on Morrison Ave for a killer dinner - highly recommended), drank a little coffee, a little sparkling wine, and got some cool gifts. I especially want to thank all of you who gave so generously to the Save the SG fundraiser that Kev started - it means so much to know that I’ve got such wonderful people in my corner.
Here are a few things I have learned over the last year, in no particular order:
Social media, like all narcotics, is a sometimes thing.
Less is, indeed, (usually) more.
The harmony vocal on “Bring It On Home” by Sam Cooke? That’s Lou Rawls.
Jeff Caldwell is right: wearing shoes is highly overrated.
The hornets that buzz around in my head will never be completely eradicated - ongoing maintenance is required.
Attention must be paid - most of my problems stem from not paying attention.
Buck Wagnon is maybe the funniest person I know (and he’s just getting warmed up).
The more good things I do, the more I want to do good things. (The inverse is unfortunately true as well.)
You know how people say Trump could shoot someone in the street, and his supporters would still love him? That’s how I feel about Morrissey.
Pete Townshend once said, “Rock and roll is very, very important - and it’s also very, very ridiculous.” That applies to everything.
